Is Palazzola restricted to Catholics?
By no means. Palazzola is the villa of the Venerable English College, a seminary founded in Rome in 1579 to train Catholic priests and thus has a religious ethos. However we welcome guests of all faiths and none. A recent guest at Palazzola was the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
Is Palazzola suitable for people of all ages?
Broadly speaking, yes. Children and young people love it here and for those less mobile there is a lift in the Old Wing. Other than that all our rooms and facilities in the Old Wing can be accessed on the level. There is always a good mix of people and age groups at Palazzola.
How many rooms are there at Palazzola?
There are 54 rooms in total, 23 singles and 28 twins/doubles and 3 triples (family rooms) spread between the Old Wing and the New Wing. The rooms in the New Wing are all ensuite. The Piazza Venezia quarter has 3 double rooms and 1 triple room, all ensuite with a small kitchenette.
Can anyone book a room and is there a min or max amount of nights?
At Villa Palazzola there is no minimum or maximum stay. Guests may book for one night or 20 nights, as long as we have the space we will welcome you with open arms!
Is there central heating in Palazzola?
The central heating system throughout the Villa will ensure you are warm and cosy if you come to stay during the winter. In addition you will find a large fire blazing in the Library.
Can we go to Mass in Palazzola?
You're very welcome to attend Mass in the chapel, the times are posted each day near reception. We often have priests staying at the Villa who say Mass but during quiet times this may not be every day. However there is always Mass on a Sunday morning.
Do I need to bring any linen and is there a washing machine?
We supply towels and there is a self-service washing machine with iron and ironing board available for guests. There is a nominal charge for each load of washing. Beach towels are however needed for the pool and these can be hired for the duration of your stay for a nominal fee and deposit.
Where are the nearest ATMs and shops?
The nearest large towns is Albano which has the usual shops, banks and a supermarket. Many banks have an ATM outside. Villa Palazzola does not sell cigarettes. On sale we have postcards and books about Palazzola as well as memorabilia such as polo shirts and bathrobes all embroidered with the English College crest.
Is smoking permitted?
In accordance with Italian law smoking is illegal anywhere within the building.
Does Palazzola have internet access?
Yes, Palazzola has WiFi throughout free of charge. We also have our very own internet cafe located in the Tea Room.
Can we combine our visit to Palazzola with a stay in Rome, Assisi or another centre in Italy?
By all means, many people do just that. The best way is to contact one of our recommended tour operators who specialise in this type of travel.
Can Villa Palazzola book our transfers/taxis/transportation and tours?
The staff at Villa Palazzola will be pleased to help and book your airport transfers, coaches and tours. We also have train time tables and train tickets on sale.
Can we book our flights through Villa Palazzola?
Villa Palazzola cannot book flights for guests, however we can put you in contact with a tour operator based in the UK who would help you with this and with the whole organisation of your stay.
At Villa Palazzola we have set meal times. Breakfast is between 8am and 9am, lunch at 1pm and supper at 7.30pm. We do not cater for meals outside of these hours. If, however, you are departing on an early flight you may request a packed breakfast. We do not, unfortunately, have any other facilities for obtaining food other than at our set meal times, so please make sure you consider this when planning your arrival and departure times.
